The Algarve is the southernmost region of mainland Portugal. It has a large area of 5000 square km which makes it a quarter of the size of Wales. The region as 410,000 permanent inhabitants, and is popular for Algarve holidays, inlcuding Algarve package deals.

Today tourism is the most important economic activity for local Algarvians.
